Colin Mullen was preparing for his investment management career even while he was in college. Even outside of classes, where he studied portfolio management. Even off the soccer pitch, where he advanced skills in teamwork, leadership and flexibility.
With half his teammates at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee international students — including those who didn’t grow up speaking English, Colin became an excellent listener. He learned to be patient and empathetic so he could understand his teammates better and work with them more effectively.
As a student athlete, Colin practiced discipline, attention to detail and time management, also necessary for an investment professional. He pursued finance because he has a head for numbers, and he knew he’d find it fulfilling.
“Having tangible results where you can see a smile on a person’s face is really rewarding,” Colin said. He knew what to expect of the work because his dad and three of his aunts are in the field.
After redshirting his first year at UWM and graduating early (summa cum laude), Colin played one more season of soccer at UW-Parkside, where he attained a master’s in finance in less than a year.
Colin lives in Milwaukee. He likes being active — including playing golf, fishing, running and “anything to do with the gym.” He also enjoys regularly hanging out with his family.
