A June 18 outdoor celebration and auction raised more than $200,000 for the Milwaukee-based Urban Ecology Center. Proceeds from the Summer Solstice Soirée exceeded the previous year’s fundraiser by more than $40,000.

Landaas & Company was a sponsor of the event, which drew more than 250 people. Steve Giles, vice president and investment advisor at Landaas & Company, has been on the Urban Ecology Center’s board of directors since 2016. (That’s him in the blue shirt, third from the right in the photo.)

“I love being involved with an organization that helps connect urban kids with nature,” Steve said.

The Urban Ecology Center is a community-based nationally renowned nonprofit with a mission to “connect people in cities to nature and each other.” It engages more than 77,000 people a year as participants and volunteers in environmental education, land stewardship, food sustainability, community science and outdoor recreation. The UEC began 30 years ago through concerned neighbors of Milwaukee’s Riverside Park and now includes locations in Washington Park and the Menomonee Valley.
