Tom Hickey remembers being a quiet child. But having a brother and sister seven and six years older taught him he had to speak up to be part of the mealtime conversations. Tom has leaned on that lesson not only to make himself heard, but to speak up for others.
Tom grew up in Menomonee Falls playing basketball and working park maintenance in the summer. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he studied economics for the disciplines of analytical thinking and problem solving.
“I’m able to take all those tools and think how I can help people,” Tom says. “That’s what I like about economics. It’s in everybody’s everyday life.”
Before joining Landaas & Company, Tom worked with the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters. Among a wide range of duties, he led conferences, developed educational materials, filed financial reports and updated members at meetings across Wisconsin on their wages and benefits.
“It really does make a difference in peoples’ lives when they’re able to have a decent income, to save money for the future and retire with dignity,” Tom says. “I’ve thought about how important that is, and that’s what led me to here — to take the skills I’ve learned working with people, building relationships, fostering those relationships, ultimately trying to help people.”
Tom enjoys everything basketball, especially the Milwaukee Bucks. He loves the outdoors. He works out, keeps up with popular video series and listens to alternative and indie rock music.
