Dave Sandstrom – Vice President
general securities representative
Dave Sandstrom knows how to handle change.
After one season playing Division 1 basketball at Georgia State University, Dave transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He decided at age 19 that although he still wanted to play basketball, more importantly, he wanted the education he needed to eventually contribute to his family’s manufacturing business.
About a decade following his college basketball career – while fellow weekend warriors urged him to keep playing – Dave exchanged his sneakers for a clipboard. Lately, he has been volunteering as head coach of a Milwaukee-area select basketball team.
“I love working with kids and helping them develop, not only as athletes but as young adults,” Dave says. “Sports have so many great parallels to life lessons about hard work, focus and discipline.”
Most recently, after 25 years of helping to grow and run one of Wisconsin’s most successful printing companies, HM Graphics, Dave decided to follow his passions for the financial industry and joined Landaas & Company as an investment advisor.
“To be successful in printing sales, I learned to understand our clients’ advertising needs and work with them to develop a thoughtful plan for accomplishing their goals,” Dave says. “That same process is what is needed here. You sit down with somebody, look at what they have and where they want to go and help them get there.”
What Dave learned about relationships at HM Graphics carries over to his new work.
“People trusted me,” Dave says. “They trusted that if I committed to a project or something on their behalf, I was going to get it done. That is why people kept coming back to HM Graphics.”
Dave has a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in graphic arts management from UW-Stout. He and his wife, Kristi, live in Elm Grove and have four children and a dog. Besides coaching, Dave is active in his church, St. John Vianney. He loves an occasional round of golf and spending time in the outdoors.
